*School Resource Officers, School Administrators (when there is
no SRO in the school), Community Police, Detectives, Magistrates,
Juvenile Court Intake, and Assistant District Attorneys (in Juvenile
Court and District Court) may refer cases to Teen Court. ( To

NOT appropriate |
| |
* Offenses with serious injury.
* Driving while impaired under GS 20-138.1, 20-138.2, 20-138.3,
20-138.5, or any other motor vehicle violation.
* A Class A1 misdemeanor.
* An assault in which a weapon is used.
* A controlled substance offense under Article 5 of Chapter
90 of the General Assembly Statues, other than simple possession
of a Schedule VI drug or alcohol.
* No sexual offenses by youth, past or present.
* No firearms, box cutters, brass knuckles, etc.

to Refer a Youth |

* Contact the youth and his/her guardian. If you are a SRO, you
can discuss teen court as an option then the parents/guardian
is notified of suspension and comes to the school to pick up the
child.
* Briefly explain what Teen Court is and recommend that the youth
complete the Teen Court program. Give the family a Teen Court
